The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was traditionally said to have been built in the ancient city of Babylon, but no longer exists today. Legend has it that this 25-metre tall garden was constructed in 600 BC by Emperor Nebuchadnezzar II, the king of Babylon, as a gift to please his homesick wife Queen Amytis. The Gardens were constructed by arranging terraces in tiers upon each other, with each level supported by cube-shaped pillars. A mosaic of colorful lions enclosed the Gardens.Irrigated by a complex network of cisterns and pumps, flora and fauna of every type were planted on each level. Each terrace overhung the other such that the Gardens appeared to float in the air, thus giving rise to the name the "Hanging Gardens". At dawn, a dew drop glides off a tree branch and lands on a flower petal. The fresh scent of berries and flowers ferried by the morning breeze quickly dissipates into the vastness of the Babylonian desert.
